A person having long hair need to give extra time and care to protect it from various tortures such as Sun, wind, hair dryers, pony-tail, braids, harsh shampoos, poor hygiene and poor diet they are exposed to everyday. In order to keep your long hair healthy you should trim it on a regular basis. Our hair grows at a rate of about one-half inch (1.25cm) per month, and so it should be trimmed every 8 weeks to maintain its natural health.

Trimming of the hair should be performed for a number of reasons. Various environmental as well as styling conditions affect our long hair, which sometimes results in severe damages. Split –end is one of these problems. Split ends are formed when the area inside the hair splits at the end. If the hair is not trimmed at this point then this splitting can continue up to the shaft making the hair condition worse. Trimming is also necessary to give our uneven grown hair a much more balanced and leveled look. The resulting hair will be smoother and healthier with no substantial change in the length or style. Another main reason for trimming hair is to maximize the growth potential. Your hair will grow much more healthy and rich if you trim off the damaged part and stop the damage from affecting other areas which sometimes give rise to substantial hair loss.
