There are a number of people that suffer from premature graying of hair. The people who do get psychologically consumed at it tends to make them look older then what they are.
Here we will discuss why premature gray hair happen and if the process of premature gray hair could be reversed.
Why it happens?
Hair color is produced by hair pigment cells within that lie within our hair follicles, they are called melanocytes. As we grow older the activity of these melanocytes declines and they stop making the pigments that keep hair black. Hence when new hair grow without the pigments are gray. This cycle is shorter in some people and hence they start having premature hair early.
The following are some of the causes of premature gray hair.
Due to thyroid problem:
Problems with the thyroid can cause premature gray hair.
Vitamin B12 deficiency:
It is noted that people who have Vitamin B12 deficiency can suffer from premature gray hair. Vitamin B12 can be found in eggs, meat and milk.
Vitiligo:
It is a condition in which the skin loses melanocytes, resulting in very light patches of skin and premature gray hair.
Early Menopause :
Early Menopause can also cause the hair to go gray.
Smoking:
Cigarette smoking has said to have an effect on the hair pigment cells.
If you avoid the above written causes of gray hair you may be able to prevent hair from going gray prematurely.
Things to be done to avoid prematurely gray hair:
Chinese medicine the primary cause of graying hair is the weakness of the kidney. The theory behind it is that the kidney is not able to purify the blood and thus it effects the pigmentation cycle of the hair as the quality of blood diminishes.
The following are some of the Foods that are thought to strengthen the kidneys:
1. Nettles
2. Wheat grass
3. Blackstrap molasses
4. Black sesame seeds
5. Chlorophyll
6. Hijiki seaweed
these things should be taken in moderation as excessive intake of these foods would also cause problems. Chinese medicine also say that excessive use of meat, dairy and salt would result in premature gray hair.
